St Luke’ Centre: Use of Alcohol Policy

THE FOLLOWING RESPONSIBILITIES APPLY TO ALL THOSE SELLING OR PROVIDING ALCOHOL AT ST LUKE’S CENTRE

These responsibilities apply where sale is carried out under the authority of a Temporary Event Notice, as well as sales under a premises licence.

  • No alcohol is to be sold to anyone under 18 years of age. A soft or non-alcoholic alternative can be provided.

  • An adult may purchase wine, beer or cider for young people aged 16 or 17 years ONLY for drinking with a table meal taken with an adult. It is illegal to sell or knowingly allow the sale of alcohol to anyone under the age of 18 OR for anyone under the age of 18 to buy or attempt to buy alcohol. An unlimited fine can be imposed should such an offence be committed and the matter dealt with in court. In addition, a fixed penalty notice of £90 can also apply.

  • No alcohol is to be sold or delivered to anyone who appears to be drunk or who is buying or delivering for some-one else who appears to be drunk. (Slurred speech, clumsy movements and loud or aggressive behaviour are generally signs of drunkenness). The Council’s penalty for conviction of this offence will be a maximum fine of £1000 and also a fixed penalty notice of £90.

  • No drunk or disorderly behaviour is permitted in or near St Luke’s Centre. Should anyone refuse to leave after being asked to do so, then they must be politely warned that they are committing an offence. If they still refuse to leave, then the police should be called but do not attempt to remove them for safety reasons.

  • No alcohol is to be provided at St Luke’ Centre after 10.30pm Monday to Saturday or 9.30pm on Sunday.

  • Smuggled goods and goods where the appropriate duty has not been paid must not be sold, brought into or kept on the premises.

  • If there is a suspicion that anyone is taking or supplying drugs, then the police must be informed.
